the METHOD
In production, Espen focuses on bringing out the unique qualities of the artists he works with and presenting them in the best possible light. One of the main focuses is to establish a direction early that meets the artists' expectations and builds on their intentions for the music. Creativity and exploration meet precise use of the right equipment to capture the performance. During production, he likes to think outside the box and enjoys facilitating artists who want to do something new and exciting. He also enjoys traveling and experiencing new places and is happy to take the production to external studios to make the production and studio experience even more unique.
The soundscape
As a mixer, Espen likes to shape a sound that highlights the unique aspects of the artists. He listens carefully to the aesthetics of the music and ensures that the mix suits the artist's vision. Espen enjoys using analog equipment that has unique characteristics and emphasizes crafting a sound that not everyone else has. Espen is also a songwriter and guitarist and is happy to contribute as such on recordings. His playing and writing style are rooted in indie-rock and shoegazing, with creative use of effects and feedback to create textures and sonic layers. He has been a guitarist in projects such as Poor Bambi, Pur Puré, Starpalace, and Lotte Lee.
