Welcome
Komet Lydstudio offers professional music production and is located in an over one hundred-year-old canning factory right behind Stavanger Concert Hall. The studio serves as the base for Espen Eidem and Simen Amundrud.
The studio was opened in 2018 by Espen Eidem, who has since worked full-time on his productions here. In 2023 Simen Amundrud became a partner of the studio, and together they run the studio in the spirit of being a professional yet homely space where creativity can flow freely. The goal is to provide a safe space for creativity and exploration, highlighting the unique qualities of the artists in the best possible light.
The studio has facilities for producing within most genres. In recent years, everything from hard-hitting punk to folk pop and jazz has passed through the doors. All forms of music are welcome, and we can handle recordings both fully live or entirely "in the box."
Home
The studio room is decorated with a homely atmosphere. We have a simple kitchenette with a coffee maker, kettle, mini fridge, and microwave. There is a short distance to a grocery store and Stavanger city center if you want to eat out or order take-away.
This, combined with high-quality audio equipment and a wide selection of instruments, makes for a lot of opportunities. Much of the work happens in the same room for close communication, but we also have a separate room used for larger live recordings that require a lot of isolation and separation between instruments.
Artists who have produced music at Komet Lydstudio often return when they are ready to create new music. Our productions have been featured on major playlists like Spotify's New Music Friday Norway, and have been played on major radio stations such as KEXP, WFMU, and NRK (P1, P3, P13).
We very much like to meet the artists in advance before we start making music together. Send an email to schedule a free coffee meeting at the studio, where we can determine the best solution for your project.

It's advisable to book recording days well in advance, especially if you prefer weekends. However, there are usually some available slots here and there, so feel free to inquire. We prioritize production for artists or ensembles with original material in the form of singles, EPs, or albums. Unfortunately, we do not accept bachelor parties or similar events.
Services
RECORDING
We operate with recording days where we work in eight-hour sessions. The standard daily rate is 5000 NOK for Espen Eidem as producer/recording engineer, including the studio. Espen can function both as a producer involved in shaping the sound and arranging or as a pure recording engineer. The role and expectations are clearly agreed upon in advance of the session. Small recordings that do not require a whole day are also welcome; contact us for a quote for such a recording.
MIXING
Mixing of songs is done by Espen Eidem and has a standard price of 5000 NOK per song. The standard price includes two rounds of possible adjustments. For larger projects such as EPs or albums, package prices are often available, so contact us for a quote on larger projects. The price may be slightly higher if the song has a large number of tracks (100+ tracks). Printing stems, alternative versions, or additional adjustment rounds are charged at an hourly rate of 650 NOK. All mixes are printed through a high-quality analogue compressor and EQ.
DRUM RECORDING
Do you have a song that needs the energy that only real drums and percussion can provide? Simen Amundrud can deliver multi-track drum recordings for your project, recorded with high-quality microphones and analogue hardware.
REAMPING
We have a great selection of amplifiers in the studio that we can run your DI recordings through! Or maybe you want to experiment and reamp vocal tracks or drum tracks through amplifiers or pedals? We have amplifiers from brands such as Marshall, Music Man, and Vox, as well as a Leslie cabinet. Reamping is charged at an hourly rate of 650 NOK.
SESSION MUSICIANS/SONGWRITERS
We have a wide network of session musicians and songwriters and help you find the right ones for your project! Espen Eidem is happy to contribute as a songwriter, guitarist, or bassist, and Simen as a drummer, arranger, or songwriter. The price for external session musicians/songwriters varies and is agreed upon directly with the participant. Contact us for an estimate on the price. We also encourage musicians/songwriters who wish to be available for such assignments to contact us! All musicians who have participated in a recording must be registered with Gramo, and all songwriters must be registered with Tono upon release.
Other services
EXTERNAL RECORDING
Sometimes the recording has to take place elsewhere, and we are ready for that! We are happy to move the production to an external location to do something completely new and exciting. Espen has contact with several respected studios in Norway and abroad; contact us to hear more about these opportunities.
COURSES/GUIDANCE
We love to share experiences and expertise within our fields and offer one-on-one courses in music production, recording techniques, mixing, and drums. Contact us to learn more about this.
EXTERNAL
PRODUCERS
External producers are welcome to produce at Komet Lydstudio in collaboration with Espen or Simen. Unfortunately, the studio is not rented out without at least one of them being present.
MASTERING
Komet Lydstudio does not offer mastering, but we have a close collaboration with Steven Bishop, who delivers high-quality mastering for digital releases and vinyl. We are open to using your preferred mastering engineer if you already work with one.
Equipment and instruments
The studio is well sound-treated and has top-quality audio equipment from well-known brands such as Neumann, Focal, Heritage Audio, AEA, Shure, Audix, Audient, Audio Technica, and many more. We have gathered a fine mix of Hi-fi and Lo-fi equipment so that all sonic wishes can be fulfilled. We have a wide variety of string instruments and drums/percussion, in addition to a nice keyboard section with synths and a Kawai upright piano that sounds wonderful. All instruments, amplifiers, effect pedals, and other toys in the studio are free to use during recordings. If there is something specific you are looking for in your recording, just ask, and we will do our best to supply it.
